The boys got to try a couple of firsts this week - Flying Squirrel
trampoline park and BMX racing too. This also has a quick outing up K peak.

Flying Squirrel first

Full size
Most of these are blurry since the boys were moving at mach chicken speed.

Having fun at the trampoline park.

Two boys posing.

Full size
This might be my favourite new photo of these two.

Full size
Climbing on the wall then dropping into the pit - a fun activity for anyone.

Sweaty boys having fun at the Flying Squirrel.

Full size
They wanted to make towers with foam blocks.

Full size
Playing 'dodgeball' kind of, but mostly just running around throwing balls at people.

Full size
Sitting in the king's chair.

Full size
Which of course turned into an argument about who was the king.

Full size
Walter wasn't happy to share the chair with Grayson.

Full size
But Grayson got it too.

Hangar Air Museum

Full size
This was Rhys and Grayson's first visit to the Hangar. They thought it was pretty rad, here checking
out a bomb.

An Avro Lancaster that the boys thought had a cool payload compartment.

An old DC-3.

At the BMX Track

Full size
So, Cochrane has an amazing BMX track that's been here since the time of RAD .
Our boys finally got a chance to try it out.

Full size
Henry basically did laps on the track for an hour on his borrowed mini bike.

Full size
Henry's balance improved a ton since he's had two bike camps and an enduro race.

Full size
He didn't want to start with the hydraulic gate, but just rode through the start after the kids
practiced on the big gate.

Full size
Meanwhile, Walter found the sandbox and just loved that.

Full size
On the rollers.

Full size
I got Walter a half-track membership which he finally got to try out on this day.

Full size
The helmet didn't quite fit, but he did great on the bike.

Rocking the half track with his brother watching.

Peak 50/108 - Kananaskis Peak

Full size
I had a weather window and could get a quick morning outing so chose to do Kananaskis Peak.
Look how stunning the early morning bluebird sky looks with snow still on Bogart (back left).

Full size
The target peak in early morning light.

Full size
A look at the vertical wall I thought I had to get up - the actual route goes up to the right.

Full size
Right up the middle of this guy. For posterity sake, I managed to get off the trail pretty early
on as the Wasootch trail split. In future, take the ~2 minutes to look around for the orange flag
or cairn, or SOMETHING, in order to stay on route. In this case, it was just after the Wildland
provincial park sign, and in retrospect it was RIGHT THERE!

Full size
Looking back at Wasootch Peak - this makes a neat ridge walk, but I didn't have the time to do
both on this day. I did Wasootch with Crazy Carl years ago with snow to our nuts.

Full size
A bit of Fireball inside the summit box.

Full size
Looking at Mt McDougall, the big dog in this sub-range.

Full size
This was the most technical part of the day with a decent downclimb on the front of the ridge
that I used for the descent. I think Bob Spirko lists this portion as the ascent route, but I'm
not sure that would be the most fun.

Full size
Cool looking sentinel spire.

Full size
After screwing around on the ridge, I found the descent gully. It wasn't quite the "easy scree"
that was promised and was instead a lot of inconsistent rock and talus that was challenging to descend.

Full size
Some moss campion.

Full size
I give the descent gully a solid thumbs-down. There must be a better descent route here. Maybe it's
simply changed in character since the 2013 floods, but I didn't enjoy it.

Full size
Some waterfalls on the way out.

Full size
Indian paintbrush on the exit.

Full size
A really cool waterfall on the way out.

The route on Garmin Connect is HERE with highlights of ~10km, 2100 calories, 5 hours car-to-car, and 1060m elevation gain - STEEP!
