Fun times skiing with friends and family

Full size
We rented a townhouse in Fernie for New Year's with our friends Scott and Amy and their family.
This was our appie supper for New Year's.

Full size
The kids were SOOO excited to dress up and have Christmas crackers for New Year's. That's Lucy
and Martin enjoying themselves.

Natalia and Amy wearing pretty outfits on New Year's Eve.

Full size
The kids were super jacked to have a neighbour give them sparklers. We went up to watch the
fireworks from the Mighty Moose chair.

Natalia and I celebrating New Year's at Fernie.

Full size
Fireworks with the kids being 'independent' and getting to watch by themselves with their friends.

Full size
Decent show actually.

Full size
Henry thought the second round of Christmas crackers was even better than the first.

Martin wearing Scotty's rainbow goggles.

Rainbow goggles match rainbow cake!

Henry, Lucy, and Martin coming down from the Great Bear Express.

Full size
All four kids crushing the greens at Fernie. Their favourite run was Lizard since the snow wasn't
really covering many of the other runs.

Full size
Henry, Martin, and Lucy being independent on their own chair.

Full size
And on the Timber chair solo too!

Full size
I managed to convinced the kids to come ski from the top of Timber and they did pretty well.

Full size
Power snow plows!

Full size
Ham sandwich for lunch with chips in it! Yes please!

Full size
Henry and Martin wanted to ski the 'big run' from the top of White Pass, so we went up to ski the
5km run down Falling Star. Henry was terrified of the cliffs and drop-offs so he couldn't wait to
get away from the chair and back to the tree line.

Full size
Heading back towards Timber.

Full size
Getting back to comfortable skiing where there isn't a drop on either side made Henry feel a LOT better.

Skiing through the trees off the Elk chair

Full size
After crushing themselves to ensure they got the last chair on Deer (they did), the boys still
wanted more and so we did a couple of laps on the platter before heading home.

Full size
Not a bad ski house dinner I'd say.

Full size
Scott and Amy enjoying dinner.

And Amy looking for dessert.

Full size
After Fernie, we made our way back into Alberta to ski at Castle for four nights. We had a window
before we could check into our house, so we popped into the Frank Slide Interp Centre. Henry liked
solving the wood photo puzzle of Turtle Mountain.

Full size
While the snow base wasn't amazing at Castle, there was still ample terrain for the boys to enjoy
themselves. Here are the boys on top of the Huckleberry chair.

Full size
Henry and I doing laps on Huckleberry.

Full size
Neat book we found at our ski house. For the record, the house had lots of space in it, but it was
PRICEY! Easy enough to split with more people as they had 3 bedrooms and 5 futons. You just need
to find people who can commit to joining you.

Full size
Great stickers from Castle.

Full size
The boys' new favourite sticker.

Full size
The whole fam on Huckleberry chair.

Full size
Walter wanted to ski away from the groomed runs since he wanted to check out the 'half pipe',
basically a cut back trail with a bit higher edges. We got a bit of fresh snow overnight and it
freshed up the hill for sure.

Full size
Walter skiing the 'half pipe'.

Full size
He's now a big fan of tucking and going 'mach chicken'.

Full size
A bit of a look at how barren the top of the red chair is.

Full size
But I did get Henry up for a look at the top of the Red chair.

Full size
Looking through the pass on the left side of the cat track, you can see back into BC.

Full size
I went for a poke on my BC skis to try out my new boots. You can see how low the snow level is
when these huge ferns are still visible.

Full size
Castle has a well-marked 'uphill route' that you can take to the top of Huckleberry for a
look about. It took me 44 minutes from the house to the top of the chair.

Full size
We got Walter up the blue chair for a look about and he did just fine in spite of the extra
rocks on the runs.

Full size
This is where I was proud of Walter though - zero problems tossing himself down moguls. At one
point, he and Henry and I were waiting for Natalia to make her way down. I dare say that the
time has come already that they're outskiing her!

Full size
Our whole family skiing powder at Castle Mountain - whoop whoop! This is off the Pony Express run
that Henry quite liked.

Walter and Mommy with chocolates from her pocket.

Henry doing small jumps at Castle

Full size
After we got home, we had some ski repair and tuning work to do. Henry was excited to help
so of course it's time to use that child labour!

Full size
He was most excited about just melting wax since our house is a candle-free zone.
