Some fun photos from my friend Lindsey's wedding, biking around
Cochrane and Canmore, along with our semi-annual boys' weekend trip, this
time to Bragg Creek to introduce the boys to actual mountain biking.

While Natalia and I were at the wedding in Calgary, my Mom took the boys to a park to run out
some energy, and while there decided to take photos of them in the trees.

It's kind of like 'Between the Ferns' but not quite.

Looking out into Sunset Ridge and down into the ravine.

They needed to have blizzards BEFORE dinner in case they were too full afterwards. That's a Grandma move.

Henry in his gi at Arashi-Do, where he's started this fall.

My boys and I on my birthday with my new sweater from the Danyliuks.

My friend Graham happened to pop by on my birthday enroute to Canmore for a first aid recert. Not
only was I able to help him out with a laptop charger, he also got to sing me Happy Birthday on Natalia's
pink guitar while I had a candle in my DQ Buster Bar!
Boys' Weekend in Bragg Creek

This was the welcoming committee at the VRBO we rented.

I think our cabin would be generously described as 'cozy', but I really wanted the boys to get a chance
to experience Bragg Creek and this was one of the only options I could rent in town. It's roughly 500 sq ft
maybe with one bedroom a living/dining room, but some really nice outdoor space and a sweet hot tub.
I made steak for dinner as Natalia had prepared our entire meal plan which was AWESOME!

The look on Erik's face when he tried Japanese whiskey.
Full size
That's a pretty accurate description of it I'd say.
Full size
While Erik had torn his bicep and couldn't bike, I did convince Earl and Benny to take a mountain
bike lesson on rented bikes. Here they are in the West Bragg parking lot warming up.

Benny figuring out how a modern bike rides.

Nice outing in West Bragg for Boys' Weekend! We'll have to photo shop Erik into this photo maybe
with that sweet look on his face from the Japanese whiskey.
Full size
Benny riding around the corner. In the end, both boys managed to crash, but neither of them that
badly. And the best part was that I didn't make them do it - Andra did!
Full size
Next, we did a super short walk to check out the suspension bridge. When I suggested an actual mountain
hike, I damn near got a mutiny, so we settled for a walk.

The boys on Elbow River suspension bridge.

While it would have been easy to head right into the beer at this point, we decided to take a walking
pub crawl instead. Here's a neat piece of debris that showed up from the flood.

Earl was happy to wrap himself up in a blanket waiting for dinner.

Benny brought me a cake for my birthday, which was very thoughtful and delicious for breakfast.
Full size
We had some pretty sweet northern lights around this time.
Full size
Walter LOVES my friend Andrew's Ms Pacman game, but likes Galaga the best.
Full size
Henry with his gi on and northern lights out too.

Henry finally went on the roller coaster!

Biking at Canmore Nordic Centre

I took the boys biking at CNC to meet up with their friend Fisher. While the start wasn't a terrific
success (I need to ensure the boys are fed WELL first), the day turned out well. The boys wanted to
start at the jump park so we did.
Full size
We eventually caught up to the group, but first here we are getting the rest of lunch into the boys.
Full size
My friend Nathan's wife Julie killed it in terms of packing candy for the sprogs. They were
big fans of big candy bags at all of the stops.
Full size
At the trail junction between EKG and Odyssey. The kids had a good rest here and also ran around like
hooligans meaning they also wound up with burrs all over their socks.
Full size
Henry, Fisher, Walter, and another biker enjoying CNC.
Full size
All of the kids having a hoot before doing the Odyssey trail.
Full size
Henry thought it was fun to go fast down here as he jumped off a small jump.
Full size
Walter noodling along on the back end of Odyssey. He REALLY liked the banked berms and corners
at the end of the trail as we descended back from the high point.
Full size
My buddy Matt with his wife's license plate. Apparently their girls thought Mom's car looked like
a blueberry. Maybe 'bluebs' might have been better as Heidi gets LOTS of comments... Great time
playing squash and getting my butt handed to me by Matt though!

One upside of work travel is it expands the range of places you can buy used stuff from. In this case,
really good used bikes. This is Henry's 'new to him' bike and he's JACKED!
