Fun camping photos in Waterton after the kids were done school.

Full size
We took a trip to Winchell Lake while Walter was at a bday party but it was quite moist.
Check out how high the water table is.

Waterton camping

Full size
We had been meaning to take the boys camping to Waterton for a few years and finally were able to
make it happen. It wasn't the best weather, but it is a really pretty place. Natalia made these
wicked breakfast wraps that are basically reheatable and are awesome! Once the threads on the
propane bottles work...

Full size
With a LOT of water overnight, we decided to go enjoy the visitor centre, which was recently redone.
Walter liked the 'poo' exhibit where you guess the animal based on the poo.

Full size
Both boys enjoyed the relief maps as well.

Full size
The giant sasquatch is a hit.

Full size
As a means of warming up, we popped into a few shops and then had pizza by a fireplace. Walter is
showing off both his recently-lost tooth and his new dragon egg. He's a 'collector' of things for sure.

Full size
We took the boys for a drive to Red Rock Canyon which they quite enjoyed. Here's Henry wandering
through the creek with his boots on. Of course, Walter's are destroyed and leaking so he wasn't
able to wander around in the creek with his brother.

Jumping rock to rock.

Full size
One of the wildflowers I quite liked - this is an oval-leafed alumroot, part of the saxifrage family.

Full size
Walter on the hike to Blakiston Falls. Walter liked how sharp Mt Anderson was.

Full size
Very cool flower called beargrass. What's neat is that it's so distinctive and looks like
Dr Seuss poofs. It's also cool that it blooms only 3 times in 10 years and only grows south
of Crowsnest Pass. I thought the flower petals themselves looked like Natalia's wedding
flowers called stephanotis.

Full size
Better family photo.

Full size
The boys thought the power of the water through here was cool. The new platforms that were
built by Parks Canada here are worth studying as it gives great access without damaging the area
and without letting people get too close. Spendy though.

Neat single flowered wildflower called a queen's cup.

Full size
Columbines were also out on the Blakiston Falls trail.

Full size
Henry thought the big red bear was funny at Cameron Lake.

Full size
Freezing weather at Cameron Lake - the idea of paddling here was horrible.

Full size
And from the top as well.

Full size
Natalia made marinated steak with chimichurri sauce - and using her own parsley! I'd argue
this was one of our better camping meals.

Full size
Playing Sorry under the shelter while it dumped more rain.

Full size
Result of wind and lots of rain. While our tent didn't fly away, it also didn't do terrific
and now needs a bit of love and TLC to fix up a few holes.

Full size
A movie theatre for Garfield was a great way to dry off and warm up.

Full size
Hiding under tree cover while another storm blew over as we biked to the Prince of Wales hotel.

Full size
There are no shortage of deer in the park and Walter thought this one was cool as it waited out the storm.

Full size
Climbing up to the hotel.

Full size
Walter thought this relief map was cool inside the hotel.

Full size
Looking south to the US and Mt Cleveland from the Prince of Wales hotel.

Full size
Henry and 'Parka' - the parks beaver at the Waterton visitor centre.

Full size
Having an ice cream, even while a bit cold, is always fun.

Full size
We went for a drive to the bison paddock while the rain cleared. Henry and Walter got to see
bison grazing, which was neat.

Full size
We took a hike up the Bear's Hump before dinner which Henry thought was cool.

Full size
Top of Bear's Hump, a quick 250m elevation, 1.2km hike that the boys crushed in 36 minutes.
No problem Dad!

Full size
Henry and I at the top of Bear's Hump.

Full size
Walter, Henry, and Upper Waterton Lake. Walter did this one in rubber boots since his shoes were
still soaked.

Full size
Hiking back down the trail.

Full size
Chicken kebobs for dinner! Yummy!

After dinner we took a bike ride to the playground to check out the Town's Canada Day party

Full size
Henry, after playing in the bouncers.

Full size
Both Walter and Henry loved climbing in the trees at the campground.

Full size
Yeah, I don't know what to say about this one.

Full size
We stopped at Head-Smashed In Buffalo Jump for a visit since Henry had studied it in class.
We had a picnic and wandered around.

Full size
This flower is bright orange and called scarlet mallow.

Full size
Looking around from the top of the museum.

Full size
Two well-preserved buffalo jumps.

Full size
The pride of parenting means I can be very happy that Henry is working to maintain his own bike.

Summer hailstorm in Cochrane

Full size
On Canada Day proper, we elected to go shopping since the weather wasn't terrific. The boys
found these 'viper sunglasses', named after the military company Pit Viper.
