We took the boys on a long tour through Saskatchewan to visit friends and family.
To Waskesiu
Full size
Next, we took a tour up to Northern Saskatchewan to spend some beach time. First, a stop at Lawson Mall
for groceries and lunch, and to have Henry sit in trains.
Full size
The updated Nature Centre in Waskesiu is absolutely stunning and worth the visit. Here's Henry filling
a pelican's mouth with little fish from the basket.
Full size
"Daddy, check out this bear cave! I wonder if the bear is home!"
Full size
Natalia really enjoyed the morning cinnamon buns at the general store in Waskesiu. Here's Henry sitting
on the 'tete-a-tete' chair outside the 'old lady clothing' store near the cinnamon buns.
Full size
Henry was pretty excited to get a ring pop and sit on the Adirondack chair with the bike helmet on.
Full size
Henry playing in the sand at one of the better playgrounds I've played at. Waskesiu just bought this
new playground and they should be proud of it since it's awesome.
Full size
Henry wanted to check out the dock, so we wandered to the end and looked at algae on the rocks
along with looking for fish.
Full size
Having some beach time with Walter in the frog tent.
Full size
After playing in the water (mostly just throwing rocks in the water), Henry wanted raisins for a snack.
Full size
Henry and I went for a bike ride up to the point, which was actually quite pretty.
Full size
If you look really closely you can see a cow elk under this tree. We walked on the far side of the
street after seeing her since she was quite large.
Full size
I rented us an 'AA' cabin from the Armstrong Hillcrest folks, which turned out to be perfect for our
family. A nice clean cabin, a shower and tub for Henry washing up, a good BBQ, and a deck to chill out
on, which is what Walter is doing here.
Video of Henry eating pop rocks
Full size
Walter seems to be fascinated with cans lately. I tried to really capture his fascination, but this
photo doesn't quite do it justice.
Full size
Henry playing on the flying saucer at the playground.
Full size
For Henry (and for Nati to be honest), any activity is all about the snacks we're going to have.
Here he got raisins AND a granola bar so he was pretty sated.
Full size
"Daddy, look, I'm on top of the big bear!"
Full size
Henry and I went for a drive while Walter and Natalia napped. Henry got to ride in the front seat
(yes, I know it's illegal, but we went max 30 km/hr). He also got to see a deer, which he was
pretty excited about.
Full size
A nibs and Chips Ahoy stop allowed us to toodle down the Waskesiu River boardwalk.
Full size
Henry thought the boardwalk was pretty cool.
Full size
Happy Henry, since he got to eat mini Chips Ahoy rainbow cookies.
Full size
The boardwalk across the river could use a little love. Especially considering it's a National Park.
Aunty Eileen and Uncle Bill's Farm
Full size
Enroute home from Waskesiu, we stopped to see my aunty Eileen and uncle Bill. Here's Walter hanging
out with Aunty Eileen.
Full size
Henry was absolutely over the moon about sitting on my uncle Bill's vintage tractors.
Full size
My Aunty Eileen let Henry play with her SLR camera, and he's actually not too bad.
Full size
Back in Saskatoon, we did some more visiting with Sarah, and here she is with our family.
Full size
Next, we visited with Natalia's godparents at the Forestry Farm. Being this close to grizzly bears made
my blood boil a bit, but Henry didn't seem to care too much.
Full size
Natalia thought this guy sitting in a hole in the ground looked like he needed a beer and a sack of
chips and he would have been happy watching football.
Full size
Rick and Henry consulting on the map and where we should go at the Forestry Farm.
Goats fighting at the Forestry Farm
Full size
We read some stories at Rick and Janet's. Henry's a pretty intent listener.
Full size
Next, we went to visit with Aunty Paulette and Uncle Dan. Henry needed to burn off some energy
so we went for a walk to the water tower, which Henry was fascinated with. "Daddy, where is the
ON button?" He walked all around the tower before concluding that it must be inside the tower.
Full size
Aunty Paulette and Walter. Again, they treated us to a delicious dinner and a fun visit, except for
the fact that our boys were terrible.
Full size
Uncle Dan and Walter hanging out in their kitchen.
Full size
We had stopped in Moose Jaw for poppy seed loaves and also picked up homemade tarts, which we brought
for dessert. Henry was pretty jazzed about the cherry ones.
Full size
We overnighted in Swift Current at the Home Inn, where Henry got to stay in the Broncos Suite. He
LOVED the puck pillows, the bunk bed (he slept on the top bunk), the Xbox (he loved the Pacman game),
and just having more space than in other hotels. A definitely easy hotel stay if you're traveling with
toddlers in Swift Current.
Full size
Henry and Luc playing in the park behind their house.
Full size
Henry and Luc checking out the Memorial in the park.
Full size
Our last family visit was to Medicine Hat to see my aunty Colette and Uncle Rick. Here's Walter
with my uncle Rick.
Full size
Rick, Colette, Kali, Natalia, and Henry chilling on the lawn while Henry laps the car with his bike.
Full size
Disappointingly, I think this may be the only photo we took with my Mom and Walter. We need
to work on being better at taking photos. I would chalk it up to being so comfortable and relaxed
at my mom's house, but we need to do better.
