The 8th iteration of our travels to Old Macdonald's Resort near Stettler, AB.

Year 8 of Old Mac

Full size
On our first night, we made hot dogs and Natalia made a great bacon pea salad. Henry has figured out
his favourite way to roast a hot dog and now he's a fan.

Full size
Our campsite, set up with the bug tent, two tents (one for the boys) and our shade tent.

Full size
And the hammock is always a hit.

Walter crushing a Biosteel drink and Jackson playing with the neighbour kids.

Full size
Throwing balls at the smashball game.

Full size
Erin always makes these great craft kits, which this year were 'paint your own' gnomes.

Full size
One of Walter's favourite things about Old Mac is the beach where he can dig for days. Here he
and Jackson are working on some kind of a moat.

Full size
Natalia and her friend Erin about to go spend time in the floaties on the lake.

Full size
Izzy was able to bring her friend Ava again, and they had a blast in the sand.

Full size
Making a big moat.

Full size
Gracie hanging out on the pineapple floatie.

Full size
The kid floaty flotilla is often a big party. The risk on this lake is that the wind picks up and
tosses the floaty across the lake, which at this spot is about 3.5km across.

Full size
Jackson and Walter tossing balls around. We haven't put the kids into ball since they're often
busy with other sports and activities, so it was good to get some coaching at throwing balls.

Full size
Gracie and Henry crushing goldfish on the beach.

Full size
Having taco in a bag night We actually got Henry to try a tiny bit of this and he didn't hate it.

Full size
One of the big attractions of Old Mac is that the kids can have a bit of autonomy due to the very
slow speeds of vehicles and the large number of kids on bikes. They use this autonomy to go to the
candy store pretty much every day and getting ridiculous sugar products that usually Dad would say no to.

Full size
More ball on the beach.

Full size
The bug zappers are a big hit, especially now that our bug tent tends to attract them.

Full size
Natalia introduced strawberry marshmallows which the kids loved.

Full size
Walter took about 30 photos of the sunset over the trees in the campsite.

Full size
He loved the colours here.

Full size
A small yellow bird that hung out with me while I had coffee in the morning.

Full size
I think it might be a yellow warbler or it might be a female American goldfinch.

Full size
Blaine suggested taking the boys golfing, so this was Henry and Walter's first time trying out golf.
Here's Jackson on the first tee. We mostly played from the reds, but gave the boys a chance to try
out extra shots from the yellow tees too.

Full size
It turns out that Walter shoots left. The boys got pull carts so that they could manage their own
clubs but by the 4th hole, I was pulling two carts.

Full size
Jackson doing a warmup swing.

Full size
Henry trying out his first golf day.

Full size
Walter enjoyed teeing up from pretty much anywhere.

Full size
Putting was a big hit too.

Full size
The Alix gator was a big hit for the boys as they loved seeing this thing rip around the pond. It
was only later that they realized it wasn't real. See more on the Alix gator HERE .

Full size
Pulling their pull carts up to the 4th hole.

Full size
Lining up for a fairway poke.

Full size
Approaching the green from the fairway on hole 8.

Full size
Jackson found these glasses at the Alix gas station. We tried out milkshakes here too, which in spite of
large amount of love from the owner, weren't very good.

Full size
Walter likes to motor Natalia around the lake in this floatie.

Full size
Floaty party.

Full size
We brought the Voyager 300, which is good for a lark. The kids would often take it out and then run
out of interest and I'd have to paddle it back in.

The Double Dime takes a tour

Full size
This is often the big draw to Old Mac - LOTS of candy and the ability to buy products (like terrible goo)
that their parents would normally say no to.

Riding the alpine coaster

Full size
After last year's fun time, the boys had put the Alpine Coaster in Red Deer on their summer list. Their cousins
Logan and Grace joined this time.

Full size
Henry on the coaster.

Full size
Grace too - there's only one control here - GO or brake.

Full size
Logan isn't quite big enough to go by himself. They have to remove the padding at the back to make
space for two on these carts making it a bit less comfortable for Justin.

Full size
Our friends Jen and Crazy Carl were driving through the area and so they joined us for a ride.

Full size
This guy is all knees on a coaster like this.

Full size
Since it was so hot at Canyon, we elected to have an AC and DQ break instead. Here Henry and Grace wound
up with blizzards.
