Henry and I decided to zip down to Portland to see a concert of his favourite
band, Imagine Dragons. But first, a birthday party in the Ghost for Ty.

First some photos from Walter on the weekend

Full size
While Henry and I went to the US, Walter got to crush it with his little buddy Grayson. Here they are
at the Flying Squirrel fun centre in Calgary.

Full size
Then they got to go to Olive Garden for dinner.

Full size
Having quesadillas with his friend Niko. Check out the pumpkin pattern.

Full size
I'm not totally sure why Henry wanted to play box head, but they both got a kick out of it.

Full size
Two little boxheads.

Full size
I bought a screened in tent to give us more options for camping in buggy areas.

Full size
We went for dinner at my friend Jim's house and they boys were jacked to jump on their trampoline.

Full size
A pretty decent part of the world.

Full size
I took Walter for a zip around Cochrane and he quite liked using his high voltage tennis racket to
try to kill more wasps.

Full size
Walter and I installed signage for Peanut Butter Jelly Time.

Full size
Walter is a big fan of power tools.

Full size
The boys built a puzzle they were proud of.

Ty's birthday party

Full size
We took a tour deep into the Ghost to celebrate Ty's birthday. The boys again got a kick out of
trying to kill insects with their racket.

Full size
Pretty decent bridge installed in the Ghost. Who paid for this I wonder?

Full size
The boys enjoyed riding their bikes all through the mud.

Full size
Ty definitely enjoyed getting his bike stuck in the mud, and so did Rhys.

Full size
Henry and the Burnt Timber Creek.

Full size
After Rhys got his bike full of mud, why not wash it off in the creek?

Full size
And now Ty taking a turn.

Full size
Ty, Rhys, and Henry having a party in the Ghost. Do you think they got a bit wet? I think Ty
actually managed to lose his shoe in that last puddle.

Full size
Henry quite liked ripping around on a little quad.

Full size
Crossing point 324 was a decent spot for the kids to play.

Full size
Birthday cake for the birthday boy.

Full size
Blowing out his candles.

Full size
Chasing grasshoppers with Grayson and Brandt.

Full size
Finding minnows.

Full size
Very happy boys looking for insects and fish to catch.

Full size
Fun times together.

Full size
Henry and Rhys after Rhys had to wash himself off again.

Henry goes to Portland to see Imagine Dragons

Full size
This was Henry's first trip anywhere without his brother. He was mighty excited and pretty proud
to be leaving the country by himself. This is at YYC at the US side of security. He thought it was
cool that we're actually on US soil on this side of the airport. I find it uncomfortable but
necessary.

Full size
Henry thought the Q400 was a bit louder than he likes. He's not wrong.

Full size
Landed at PDX on the same side I used to use so much. The carpet in some places is still
the same, which was pretty rad to see.

Full size
After fighting traffic for longer than I'd like, we made the trip to Corvallis to see Jason and Avie
and their boys. Here Jason is showing Henry Avie's new pottery studio.

Full size
And one of the finished insects. Henry liked the gold paint that was actual gold.

Full size
Avie and her carrot that her friend Laurie painted and I think is awesome.

Full size
Henry liked their neighbour's water feature.

Full size
Jason, Avie, and I having dinner in Corvallis together.

Full size
Henry was super excited to have a soft pretzel for dinner.

Full size
This is a great bathroom sign and speaks to the world we live in today.

One of the things I was really happy to see was how independent and funny Porter and Oliver have
turned into. Here's a video of Oliver rocking out a unicycle

Henry also loved their spider toy

Full size
Giant pencil from Jason and Avie's house.

Video of the Lego roller coaster that both boys love

Full size
Henry liked this invention that Oliver made to allow him to turn on the light without leaving his
top bunk.

Full size
Oliver crushing it at the local bike park.

Full size
Our next stop in our Oregon tour was Oaks Park, an old amusement park that I thought Henry
would like.

Full size
Really awesome roller coaster that I couldn't convince Henry to try. He thinks they're cool
but he's just not quite ready to ride the upside down ones yet.

Full size
Henry and I on a spinny ride instead.

Full size
Mini roller coaster with still some pretty effective jerkiness and moves.

Full size
Henry and Elianna on a ride that you sit on like a motorcycle. Henry didn't love the back
support that basically squeezed you down into the seat.

Full size
This ride was FAST, as I clocked it >40 km/hour.

Full size
Paul thought it was awesome though!

Full size
Henry and Elly on the Scrambler.

Full size
And the REALLY slow Ferris wheel.

Full size
Go karts were definitely a highlight for Henry on this trip. He got a slightly faster
kart than I did and he was super pleased to be able to pass me.

Full size
Henry and Elly on another ride, this one a slow boat.

Full size
Allison, Tamaya, and Quinley (I love Quinley's smile here) on the boat ride with me.

Full size
Zoom in for a great photo of Allison.

Full size
This one is even better.

Full size
Henry and the girls got to play this carnival game and Henry won a stuffy.

Full size
Shooting water is always fun.

Full size
Henry's cool stuffy.

Full size
Henry thought Coke from a glass bottle was better than plastic.

Full size
This was at dinner in Beaverton at the food truck festival area. Henry again thought this was
pretty sweet since he could eat whatever he wanted.

Full size
I had BBQ ribs and he had gooey grilled cheese.

Full size
Using the leaf blower to move leaves off the trampoline was a big hit for Henry.

Full size
We went to a sweet arcade in Hillsboro with my friend Jeff and his family that allows you full access
to the games for a fixed price. There were >^600 arcade games and pinball tables here. Just foolish.
And a stupid number of memorabilia like lunch boxes and other video-game-related crap.

Full size
Henry and Quinley playing Nerf arcade shooting.

Full size
LOTS of pinball machines ranging from brand new to old vintage ones.

Full size
And action figures too!

Full size
This gives a sense of the typical clientele on a Sunday later morning.

Full size
Henry liked this space invaders game, something that Walter hammered on at Big Box in Calgary.

Full size
Henry and Quinley playing Space Invaders.

Full size
Paul and Quinley crushing Bigfoot Crush.

Full size
And on super bikes too.

Full size
Small-sized games for smaller kids.

Full size
Galaga is still awesome.

Full size
Ski-ball is still one of Henry's favourites.

Full size
Even Duck Hunt was here.

Full size
Killing dinosaurs was something the 5 year old loved. Hmm, is that a good thing to promote??

Full size
And finally, the main event - Imagine Dragons! We got lawn seats for the show and had to rent
chairs, even though we brought our own. Here are Tamaya and Henry waiting for the opening act.

Full size
And Paul too!

View of the show from our seats.

Full size
Henry spent the last month trying to memorize all of the lyrics of his favourite songs.
Here he is belting one out.

Full size
A sense of the ~12,000 people here for the show.

Full size
Looking down at the stage.

Full size
Unusually for a band like this, there was no encore at all. I think the rural area amphitheatre we
were in has noise bylaws that govern big shows. Here's Allison and her girls loving the show and
trying to stay warm on a late September evening.

Full size
They insisted you rent chairs from them but we could bring our own blankets.

Rose Garden

Full size
The next morning Henry and I explored the Rose Garden and the Japanese Gardens. I noted the slope
comment here on this sidewalk for posterity.

Full size
Henry quite liked the big roses here.

Full size
And big red ones.

Full size
Henry really liked the giant squirrels stealing nuts around the park.

Full size
Henry and a giant squirrel. Not quite James and the Giant Peach, but close.

Full size
Better look.

Full size
Slowing down to smell the roses.

Full size
Henry liked this cat sculpture.

Full size
Big outdoor amphitheatre for performing arts and just to hang out and be cool in.

Full size
Lots and lots and lots of roses!

Japanese Gardens

Full size
A very calm entrance to the Japanese Gardens.

Full size
Entrance arch to the gardens.

Full size
Henry liked this pagoda.

Full size
Pretty serene spot in the gardens.

Full size
Henry liked the giant koi here.

Full size
Pretty waterfall inside the gardens.

Full size
Very calm, gently raked sand pit gardens. I'm sure it has a cooler name than that.

Full size
Henry and the brass cranes.

Natalia back at Oktoberfest

Full size
Natalia and the owner of Half Hitch - Britt enjoying ein masse.

Full size
Natalia, Christina, and Stacey took this event in on a Saturday night in Cochrane.

Full size
And with steins.

Full size
Crushing beers. Once again, Natalia won the stein holding contest proving that mental strength
beats out physical strength all day long.

Full size
Natalia winning the contest as she was the last one standing after starting with 50 contestants!

Biking and fun photos

Full size
My friend Robin and I with his first novel, finally in print.

Full size
Pretty great start to the morning at West Bragg.

Full size
My buddy Paul enjoying Merlin View.

Full size
Decent look around Merlin on a weekday morning.

Full size
Paul and I enjoying the morning.

Full size
Nice day as I went for a bike ride up Sugar Momma before flying into Winnipeg for work.

Full size
I rode up Sugar Daddy, along Strange Brew down Bobcat, and back up and around Snakes and Ladder.

Work photos

Full size
My buddy Teddy and I visiting a customer.

Full size
One of the worst parking jobs I've seen in awhile.

Full size
We needed a bigger lunch.

Full size
Blueberry pie on the ferry crossing with Teddy.

Full size
Andrew and I enjoying an IPA at YYC.

Full size
We had a few minutes so we took a short tour around the Royal Canadian Mint.

Full size
A cute photo of Andrew at the Mint.

Full size
On this trip to Winnipeg, Andrew got a Tesla he couldn't open the doors on.

Full size
Always classy Andrew at the Forks.
